Child Poverty
Plaid Cymru have been unwavering in opposition to the continuation of the cruel and unnecessary two child limit for benefits and called on the previous Conservative Government to scrap the policy.
The House of Commons Library data that shows if the cap was removed it would lift 270,000 households out of poverty at a cost of just £1.4 billion, far less than the Government’s £5 billion claim.
The last Conservative Government refused to do so, and perhaps more frustratingly, the new Labour government is stubbornly opposed to doing away with the policy.
Plaid Cymru believe that Universal Credit payments are failing to keep up with rising living costs and that households on low incomes are often let struggling to afford food and other essentials.
I am incredibly proud to be a member of a party that, through its Cooperation Agreement with the Welsh Government, brought about universal free school meals to primary school children in Wales.
Between December 2021 and September 2022, over 5 million additional free school meals were delivered to primary school children across Wales, as part of our commitment to deliver universal free school meals to primary school children by the end of 2024.
Rt Hon. Liz Saville Roberts MP
