Maintain nursing bed provision on Pen Llŷn

We are calling on the Health Board and Welsh Government to ensure that we have nursing bed provision on Pen Llŷn

There are concerns about the future of Penrhos nursging home, following the news that the Polish Housing Society is intending to close the site by March 2021.

There are hopes that another organisation will take the site on, but doubts about the future of the nursing beds.

Penrhos has played an important part in the recent history of Pen Llŷn, and it's a nursing home for the people of Pen Llŷn.

There is no other nursing home on the peninsula, which means that people would have to travel to Cricieth, Porthmadog or further afield in order to have a place in another nursing home. There is a demand for nursing beds in Pen Llŷn.

It is the duty of the Health Board and Welsh Government to ensure that our needs are provided for. As the population gets older and our health needs more complex, the damend for nursing care increases.

We call on the Welsh Government and Health Board to work together and ensure that nurse bed provision continues here in Pen Llŷn.

This is a fanastic facilitity for all of us in Pen Llyn and needs to be saved. So many people have have stayed here and been looked after fantastically well, passing away peacefully with dignity and respect. Money can’t buy this type care.

I wish to protest at the proposed closure of the Polish Nursing home. We need to recognise the history behind this building and protect the residents there at present. If the building is turned into housing, we are all aware that the section 106 houses (for those in local need) are still not affordable. In time, they become eligible to be sold to those outside the boundary that the 106 seeks to protect – i.e. become holiday homes! We need to retain nursing provision for the locals of this community.

Disgraceful that the discussions about the Polish home have this far been conducted behind closed doors so a rescue plan could not be implemented. This area needs good nursing homes.
