Safeguard The Cambrian Coast Line

Sign the Petition!

We call on Transport for Wales (TFW) and Welsh Government to safeguard services on the Cambrian Coast Line, which serves as a vital transport link for both local residents and the Gwynedd visitor economy.

Communities served by the Cambrian Coast line depend on the service for education, employment, tourism, shopping, and health reasons. The service is particularly invaluable to the elderly and to those without a car.

Instead of cutting further services, Transport for Wales and Welsh government should be actively investing in local transport links across north west Wales, ensuring local people and visitors are afforded robust, reliable, and accessible train services.

A good rail service is mandatory, especially if we’re trying to reduce our carbon footprint! Investment is needed.

The Cambrian Coast rail service was meagre but adequate. The TfW cuts make local evening visits with friends and long distance travel unviable. At Tywyn our last services will depart at 19:30. Time available in a day trip to Cardiff or Manchester drops from 8 to just 3 hours. No longer can you arrive a distant locations before midday!

This means the use of rail becomes impossible for travel to business meetings, airports, for shopping and many leisure purposes.

The societal impact of the cuts is far greater than is implied by TfW’s simplistic low usage.

The cuts are isolating and damaging. TfW and Welsh Government should think again and restore these services.

The Cambrian routes are already poorly served, particularly the coast route, so losing any trains is very bad news, but those essential first and last trains are socially necessary and should be protected, not removed.

Second Class service for transport in West Wales bordering on Third world service. Many people now and in the future need these services for social and attendance to remote medical services

This is an essential service, which should be improved rather than cut back
