Unpaid Carers
In order to reflect widespread public gratitude for the efforts of unpaid carers especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, urgent action is needed from both the UK and Welsh Government to prevent struggling carers from reaching breaking point.
Plaid Cymru believes the Welsh Government should seek the devolved powers to replace the Carer's Allowance with a non-means-tested Universal Carers Income that would at least be on par with the Jobseeker's Allowance - for all carers who provide more than 35 hours of care.
May I assure you that we will be doing all we can in Parliament and the Senedd to highlight the work of carers and fight to ensure that they get the support they need and deserve.
