Warning of scam vaccine emails

People should be wary of scam vaccine emails and text messages according to the Plad Cymru candidate for Dwyfor Meirionnydd.

His warning came following receiving a hoax email from an account claiming to be from the NHS.

The Plaid Cymru candidate said, "There are a lot of very vulnerable people waiting for the vaccinations right now. Sadly there are also unscrupulous people out there seeking to manipulate their anxieties and get people to click on links which could either spread digital viruses or will ask for personal details.

"I urge people to be wary of digital communications claiming to be from authorities. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is currently doing excellent work rolling out the vaccine across the region via GP clusters and mass vaccination centres. Those prioritised for vaccination will receive a call or a letter from the NHS notifying them. People should never give bank details to someone claiming to be involved with the vaccination or click on links in emails or texts unless they are certain that it is safe.

"In my case, while the email looked formal, it was clear that it was a hoax because by hovering my cursor over the sent email address I could see that it was not sent from any official email account. Also I know that I'm not in a priority group, and I wouldn't dream of taking the vaccine before someone else in greater need".
