WASPI Pensions
Plaid Cymru have been consistent in our support for WASPI women.
As my party’s Shadow Spokesperson for the Treasury, Plaid Cymru MP Ben Lake called on the UK Government to accept the recommendations of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and pay compensation to WASPI women. We have also called on the Labour Party to commit to compensating WASPI women as the next UK Government.
Unfortunately, both the former Conservative Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and the Labour Party chair Anneliese Dodds have declined to say if they would compensate those who were found by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) to have lost out financially after the Department for Work and Pensions failed to adequately communicate changes to the state pension age.
The two main Westminster parties cannot be allowed to fail WASPI women again. These women have suffered years of injustice, and yet the UK Government continues to refute accountability and deny rightful compensation.
In my own constituency thousands of women have been affected by this maladministration. They deserve justice, which must include swift and fair compensation.
Please note that I am long-standing member of the State Pension Inequality for Women All Party Parliamentary Group, where MP from many political parties come together to seek opportunities to further that cause of WASPI women.
Plaid Cymru has stood with WASPI every step of the way. We will continue to support WASPI and pledge to help in any way we can.
Rt Hon. Liz Saville Roberts MP
