Winter Fuel Payment
I confirm that I voted against the cut to Winter Fuel Payments and urged Labour MPs to do so. Unfortunately only one did.
This change will lead to thousands going cold this winter. 19,910 pensioners in Dwyfor Meirionnydd will be affected. It has been estimated that around 80,000 households in Wales miss out on Pension Credit despite being eligible, meaning they are already missing out on over £200 million they are entitled to.
If we add to the equation that in Wales, we often have an older, lower quality housing stock and many people living off the grid, the Chancellor’s change will have catastrophic impacts on Welsh pensioners.
Our team of Plaid Cymru MPs will continue to fight against what is a political choice by the Chancellor that could risk the health of tens of thousands of Welsh pensioners.
