Maintain nursing bed provision on Pen Llŷn

We are calling on the Health Board and Welsh Government to ensure that we have nursing bed provision on Pen Llŷn

There are concerns about the future of Penrhos nursging home, following the news that the Polish Housing Society is intending to close the site by March 2021.

There are hopes that another organisation will take the site on, but doubts about the future of the nursing beds.

Penrhos has played an important part in the recent history of Pen Llŷn, and it's a nursing home for the people of Pen Llŷn.

There is no other nursing home on the peninsula, which means that people would have to travel to Cricieth, Porthmadog or further afield in order to have a place in another nursing home. There is a demand for nursing beds in Pen Llŷn.

It is the duty of the Health Board and Welsh Government to ensure that our needs are provided for. As the population gets older and our health needs more complex, the damend for nursing care increases.

We call on the Welsh Government and Health Board to work together and ensure that nurse bed provision continues here in Pen Llŷn.

Penrhos is a valued community amongst the Poles that settled here during the war, and their descendants. They have moved from various parts of the UK to live out their final years in a community where people understand them (as many can regress to their first language in later years) and where they can receive provision for most ailments. Please keep the nursing beds open.

First came to Penrhos mid 60s to visit relatives. Have since visited family and friends on an annual basis with my own family, children and later grandchildren. As family members died out have been going twice a year to see and support the very many friends we’ve made over the years. My wife & I (both mid 70s) have been considering moving there – now this. It’s a total betrayal of the aims and intent of the founders who must be turning in their graves let alone the sorrow of relatives and the despair of the current residents.

It would be a travesty if this wonderful place was no more. Have been visiting family and friends there for 50 years! My heart is breaking.

The nursing home should not close because it’s very much needed in the community of Pen Llyn.

Penrhos can not become a deceitful way for developers to get their hands on 17 acres of development land in Upper Abersoch. We owe a huge amount to the brave Polish soldiers an pilots, who fought alongside us against Facism. Not a popular fact broadcast as we remember the 80 years that have passed since the Battle of Britain. The lying Brexshit bastards.
